Overview:

(Watershed Protection And Flood Prevention Act, Public Law 83- 566 as amended) – Provides technical and financial assistance to states, local governments, and Tribes to plan and implement authorized watershed project plans for the purpose of:

  • Watershed protection
  • Flood reduction
  • Water quality improvements
  • Soil erosion reduction
  • Rural, municipal, and industrial water supply
  • Irrigation water management
  • Sediment control
  • Fish and wildlife enhancement
  • Hydropower currently not authorized through PL 83-566 polic

Funding Information:

  • NRCS provides up to 100 percent of technical assistance costs.
  • Financial assistance cost share varies according to project purpose(s).
  • Construction costs for flood prevention purposes are 100 percent federally funded
